Reasonable Handyman Rates.  Time and Materials (T&M) or Bid Basis... a firm quote on labor and materials for the job.

Handyman.coop promotes a $31 - $39 hourly rate for general handyman work and repairs depending on the type of work being performed.  Material cost plus 6% is fair to both the Handyman and consumer.  Handyman.coop believes work performed on a time and materials basis results in a better value for clients. Time is rounded to the nearest quarter hour so you only pay for actual time used. There is no “Trip charge”.

Handyman Services generally fair better for the consumer if charges are on a Time and Materials Basis as follows: T & M - You are charged only for the actual time worked and the cost of materials purchased.

At the consumers option services may be charged on a Bid Basis as follows: BID - This is a firm quote on labor and materials for your job and will be the total amount you pay.

Below From Dutch  Handyman rates are $42.00 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours. If your job is relatively small and it appears that it can be performed in 3-4 hours, it is best to work strictly in an hourly basis. For longer jobs we are happy to provide you with a written not to exceed estimate. You will always be given a labor plus parts detailed invoice. We also give you the option to purchase any required materials on your own or instruct us to buy it for you. If you ask us to purchase materials on your behalf, we will do so and attach the invoice showing what it actually cost. Above From Dutch

Below From Just my $.02 worth  Depending on where you are ..and he is, will have a bearing on 'the rate' .  I charge between $45-$55 to do a 'repairs / maintenence, etc' type of work...and I often 'round up' a bit....And depends on if you're getting paid 'cash' or by 'check' ((traceable/reportable (tax wise) etal...)).  Above From Just my $.02 worth

Below From Jack The Contractor  Now this is what happens to me and how I handle it. Lets say we were called to put in a new window for someone. We are almost done, $150.00 job, and the owner ask if while we are there (this is the important part< WHILE WE ARE THERE) could we put the new knobs on his front door. I say sure, we put them on. Maybe 20 minutes. No CHARGE, next he says he has a closet door that sticks, we fix it 15 minutes, NO CHARGE, then he says would be replace a porch light fixture for him, we say ok. 30 minutes. Well now we have a whole hour involved with little things. We charge him $50.00. But if he had stopped with the closet door and door knob, we would not have charged him.  Above From Jack The Contractor
